If you’re trying to make some monthly savings, the first place you might look at is your monthly household bills. From water to energy, there are some simple tips to help you save all around. In this guide, we’ll give you some ideas that could help you put aside a little extra cash each month.

Switch supplier

Switching energy suppliers can be a huge saver on your household bills. Just ten minutes on a comparison website can help you find cheaper deals on all of your bills. On average, a home can save $300 a year by changing to a better energy and gas supplier. If you have been with the same utility supplier for over a year, check your latest statements and measure them with the rates found on comparison sites. It’s also a good opportunity when the insurance comes up for renewal to take time to look around for cheaper possibilities.

Get some water-saving devices

You can get some devices to help reduce the amount of water you use and, therefore, your monthly bill size. One example is a showerhead designed to be more efficient but still as powerful. You can also often get free cistern displacement devices from your water supplier. These make sure that less water is used every time you flush the toilet. Water-saving gadgets will save you money on your household bills each month, and they’re good for the environment too!

Manage your thermostat

It’s advised to turn your thermostat to around 18°C – this could save up to 10% on your energy bill. 18°C is supposed to be the most comfortable temperature for healthy people under 65. Putting the thermostat up by more than one degree than is necessary can add 10% to your energy bill! To help save even more energy, you can set a max temperature on your boiler. Putting the maximum to 60°C will put the boiler into economy-mode, and the water will heat up to 60°C and no higher.

Charge your gadgets at day

Charging your gadgets during the day could save you electricity. According to energy saving companies, a small amount of electricity is still used when a device is plugged in for charging – even if the device is fully charged. Rather than charging overnight, for many hours, plug in for a couple of hours to save on your electricity bills. This could save you as much as $50 a year. It may not seem like a significant saving, but every little helps!

Don’t waste water

One of the most straightforward ways to save on your water bill is to use less! There are many different ways that people waste water without realizing and cutting don may not be as hard as you think. There are some simple suggestions, such as turning off the tap when brushing your teeth or taking showers instead of baths. Other ways include only running the dishwasher and washing machine when with a full load or using a washing-up bowl instead of running the tap for washing dishes. You might want to check if your devices have eco-settings that you can use or purchasing environmentally-friendly appliances when you replace them. You could also install a water butt in the garden if you have one, to collect rainwater, which can be used to water plants.
